ABCD: News and Notes, Day Two

TEANECK, NJ -- Day Two at the adidas ABCD was filled with classwork, a practice session and the college players camp that two UofL players attended. Complete camp report and photos inside.....

ABCD: Classwork and Practice

The high school players spent the second day of the adidas ABCD Camp in the classroom.  Players boned up on their ABC's, learned the finer points of the verbal and math sections on the scholastic aptitude test and also were instructed in the finer points of life skills.

While the high school players were studying, the college players took the court for drill work in the morning at the Rothman Center.  Players rotated from station to station in which they practiced interior moves, ball handling and shooting skills and team defensive concepts.  The players received instruction from several former and current Division One coaches, including George Felton and Matt Doherty.

Taquan Dean (ITV)
Several of the top players in the nation were in attendance, including University of Louisville sophomore stars Francisco Garcia and Taquan Dean.  Hakeem Warrick (Syracuse), Ike Diougo (Arizona State), Steve Novack (Marquette) and Andre Brown (DePaul) were a few of the top players in attendance.

After the college players finished up early Monday evening, the action started to heat up with the high school guys during the night time practice sessions.  With college coaches coming in on Tuesday, the focus and attention to detail was much better than on Sunday night.

News and Notes

Players at ABCD are given numbers that identify them at camp.  Here are the numbers of some Louisville prospects in attendance:  Rondo (18), Telfair (31), Lofton (41), Farley (196), Holloway (212), Agnew (214).....

Sebastian Telfair and Glen Davis were the first high school players in the gym Monday evening.  The two spent more than a half hour working together on shooting drills.......

Telfair might be the best shooting, pure point guard in the nation.....Glen Davis can step out to 17 feet and drain jumpers consistently....nice stoke for a big guy.....

Nolan Smith & Rajon Rondo (ITV)
Rajon Rondo and Nolan Smith are on the same team this week.....interestingly, Rondo's team is coached by Lincoln (NY) High Head Coach Dwayne Morton.  The interesting part?  Sebastian Telfair plays for Morton at Lincoln High......

During warmups, Telfair and Rondo were paired on adjoining courts.....the two were seen checking one another out during drills.  Rondo is at least two inches taller than Telfair.........

Jason Horton will feed Aaron Agnew and Clarence Holloway this week.....It's rare that big men get the ball during camp in the post but Horton just might be the one to deliver the rock to the two big guys so they can show their stuff on the offensive end.........

Clarence Holloway & Aaron Agnew
(ITV)

Working against Agnew during the practice session, Holloway showed excellent post moves and a soft touch......Holloway got the better of Agnew on this night........

Terrance Farley is teamed with 6'6 Tyler King and 5'11 point guard Sean Singletary......Singletary recently committed to the University of Virginia........While King has to rank among the top freshman in the nation...He can handle ball, shoot from deep and has adept post moves.  He also can finish with either hand in the paint...The best part about King?  He's not intimidated playing against older, more experienced players.....Apparently, UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland has already shown interest in King.........

Farley turned his right ankle during the practice session, got the trainer to re-tape it, and was back on the floor a few minutes later.......

Glen Davis told us Monday night he hasn't heard from the Louisville coaching staff in a while.......Davis also told us he wouldn't be playing football this fall and has decided to give up the sport to pursue basketball......He listed LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma and Kentucky.  "I like Tubby Smith," Davis said......

Of note, while talking with Davis he pointed at Aaron Agnew and said, "I think they're [UofL] going after #214."......We'll see if Davis is right on that statement............

Stay tuned to ITV for coverage from ABCD all week long.......interviews with Rajon Rondo and Clarence Holloway are coming soon.
