Sarasota DB has offer from Cardinals

Sarasota Booker's Daniel Phelps creates havoc for opposing offenses, defenses and specials teams. He is hearing from a number of programs, including Louisville.

Daniel Phelps is the type of player that coaches often dream about. The type that can contribute in multiple ways, both offensively and defensively. While Phelps starts at both defensive back and running back at Booker High School in Sarasota, his contributions don't end there.

Phelps (5'10, 180) is a lightning-quick defensive back and has great coverage skills. His 4.4-40 speed also creates problem for opposing defenders when he lines up at running back. That speed has also enabled him to become a consistant threat on special teams, where he has returned kicks for scores, as well as penetrated the line and blocked a few punts.

He does have a preference as to what position he would like to play in college.

"I would like to play defensive back really," explained Phelps. "I wouldn't mind running back either, but I think I'm better at defensive back. Plus, at defensive back you really don't have to depend on anyone but yourself to make the play."

In addition to Louisville, Phelps is getting frequent attention from Nebraska, Iowa, Auburn, Iowa State, LSU, Southern Miss and Clemson. Louisville, Iowa State and Southern Miss have all extended offers.

Phelps told me that he is currently wide open and that he doesn't have a current list of favorites.
