Pinson attracts attention from U of L staff

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and his staff are still searching for several prospects in the Class of 2013. But that hasn't stopped the Cardinals from looking ahead.

The staff evaluated a bunch of 2014 prospects last week and have a list of more than a dozen prime targets from that class, including High Point, N.C. small forward Theo Pinson.

The 6-foot-6, 175-pound Pinson is ranked No. 16 among '14 prospects by and had a sensational weekend at the Nike Global Challenge. Pitino and members of his staff evaluated Pinson in at least four games during the weekend and will see him again at Peach Jam with his CP3 All-Star team.

"They're on my list and we talk probably once a week," Pinson said of the Cardinals. "I like talking to them and I'm trying to build a relationship with all of the coaches."

Pinson said U of L was "one of the first schools" to make contact with him back in June and said, "I like talking with them, they're telling me about the program and what a great place it is to play."

But at this point in his recruitment Pinson said he was "just open." He mentioned offers from Georgetown, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Connecticut, Indiana and Tennessee. He's also said he's heard from Duke, North Carolin and others.

"I am very excited all of the coaches want to come and see me play," Pinson said. "I'm just trying to work hard and show them what I can do on the floor. I know I need to improve, I just keep working hard."

Pinson said one of the areas he's tried to work on his "finishing."

"I'm playing against bigger, stronger guys now and I have to finish better," he said. "I think I am finishing at the rim better but I still need to keep working."

At the Nike Global Challenge, Pinson averaged 15 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.

Expect Pinson to be one of the prime '14 targets for the Cardinals.
