Football season just around the corner

It's now just 39 days until kickoff for the University of Louisville's football season. The Cardinals host Kentucky on Sept. 2. Here are a few dates to remember between now and the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

Louisville will report for fall camp on Aug. 2 with the first practice to be held on Aug. 3 at 5:45 p.m.

The first practice will be open to the public.

U of L coach Charlie Strong said the practices on Aug. 3 and 4 will be open to the public. A time has not been announced for Aug. 4.

But even before practice gets started the Cardinals will talk to the media several times, including tomorrow's Kroger Governor's Cup news conference, featuring Strong and Kentucky coach Joker Phillips.

The Cardinals will then attend the Big East media day next Tuesday in Newport, R.I. Strong will be joined at the event by center Mario Benavides, tackle Alex Kupper, safety Hakeem Smith and defensive back Adrian Bushell.

The U of L media day will be sometime the first full week of August, while the kickoff luncheon is already sold out and will be held on Aug. 16.

Cardinal Authority will have complete coverage of all the football events leading up to the first kickoff in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
