Action Heats up at ABCD

The action was fast and furious at the adidas ABCD Camp on Thursday.  The gym was packed to capacity, nearly all the top college coaches in the nation were in attendance and we were treated to several excellent matchups, including Sebastian Telfair vs. Shaun Livingston and Dwight Howard vs. Randolph Morris.

With all the coaches in attendance, the level of play picked up and there was a great deal of recruiting talk throughout the gym.

Without further ado, here's our Thursday report from ABCD...

News and Notes

Turning up the heat?  Coach Pitino and Coach Willard were all over Sebastian Telfair on Thursday.  They stood prominently behind the basket for each of Telfair's games....Telfair had nothing but positives to say about Louisville following his matchup with Shaun Livingston during the evening session....

Coach Willard is pulling Randolph Morris duty this week....He's watched nearly all of the 6'11 center's games this week and always is noticible wearing his gray and red Louisville t-shirts.....

Coach Pitino and Willard took in Harvey Hale, Chris Lofton and Gavin Grant's game during the afternoon session....The 6'4 Hale, a junior from New Mexico, is the top guard from his state and told ITV he likes the Cards and would like to hear more from them....Grant is a 6'7 point-forward....but he's basically a less productive Dorrell Wright without the explosiveness.......

Henry Salter was injured and did not play today......

Coach Pitino was accompanied by the Minardi children and his son, Richard for all the action on Thursday......The Minardi kids all wore Louisville apparel........

Terrance Farley is playing real well and nearly had a double-double in Thursday's first game.....He had 10 points and 8 rebounds....Farley's confidence is growing and he's more assertive on the court.....

Farley and Rondo squared off to kick off the first round of night session games.....Pitino took a seat directly behind the basket to watch the action......Rondo played well, scoring 6 points and dishing out 6 assists.  He also had a couple steals and really forced tempo and passed the ball well.....Farley had 6 points and 5 rebounds while making 2-3 shots from the field...He also blocked one shot........

The Godfather of ABCD, Sonny Vaccaro, was hyping O.J. Mayo to the media on Thursday.....Mayo is an excellent player but his upside is limited in our view....He's great in transition and brings a certain savvy to the court....but he's not a point guard and his outside shooting is somewhat questionable......

Pitino and Willard stood between courts one and two during the second game of the night session and appeared to be looking in the direction of 6'10 junior Theo Davis of Canada.....

We're still not sold on Aaron Agnew....he rebounds, passes the ball well and bangs inside the paint...but he simply doesn't score the ball.....Through the first five games, Agnew scored just 13 points on 4-17 shooting from the floor.....

6'10 Jared Gaither does some nice things on the court.....He's scored well at times this week and has 21 rebounds and 7 blocked shots through the first three days of camp.....Coach Pitino caught his afternoon game.........

Clarence Holloway is having a real nice camp...He has good post moves and scores around the basket with a soft shooting touch....His lateral movement needs work but there's lots of potential there...Holloway averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds through the five games and was 12-24 from the field......

Word at ABCD and Nike is that Roy Williams is all over Brian Johnson...It appears Johnson figures prominently in UNC's recruiting plans for next season......While this isn't a done deal yet...it's pretty close.......

Not only is ITV providing coverage from ABCD...we also have our recruiting correspondent John Carey at the Nike Camp in Indianapolis....John reports several interesting things from Thursday......

UofL Assistant Vince Taylor left Nike to follow Donta Smith at Rick Ball's JUCO camp in Indianapolis on Thursday......

Word at Nike is that the Cards are trying to get involved with 6'8 Kalen Grimes of Missouri.....While some say Kansas is the heavy favorite....TheInsiders Dave Telep, who just left Indianapolis Thursday morning, says that's not the case.....
