6'9 Aaron Agnew has rebounded well this week at the adidas ABCD Camp in Teaneck, NJ. At 350 pounds, Agnew is a wide body in the paint and is among the camp leaders in rebounding with over six boards per game.
Last month Agnew ventured to Louisville for an unofficial visit. Since that visit, Agnew has told ITV on two occasions that he really likes Louisville and Coach Pitino.
And from all indications this week in Teaneck and speaking with those close to Agnew, the interest from the Cardinal coaching staff appears to be considerable. Coach Pitino make a point to watch Agnew in action a couple times this week and the big fellow took notice of the Cardinal's Head Coach.
"It gets me up a little bit but I don't let it get me up too much to where I go out there and don't play good," Agnew said of his approach to the games Pitino attended. "I just want to go out there and play my game.
Since making his visit to the University of Louisville last month, the Cards have shown considerable interest in the 6'9 center.
"They've sent a lot of letters," Agnew said. "They've been calling when they're allowed to....they called just to say hello."
Agnew started off slowly this week but has shown steady improvement as the week has progressed.
"The first couple games I didn't play like I wanted so the next couple games, I came out and played harder," Agnew said. "I'm playing a lot better and I feel pretty good right now."
Besides Louisville, Agnew is also receiving considerable interest from Pittsburgh, Xavier and Duqeunsne. And while he's still open with his recruiting process, he seems to be narrowing the list right now.
"I'm pretty wide open right now but I'm looking pretty hard at Louisville," Agnew said. Agnew indicated that Pittsburgh was his current second choice.
When asked if it were accurate to state that Louisville was his leader, Agnew responded, "Right now they are."
Agnew explained his reasoning for listing the Cards as the favorite was really pretty simple.
"I like both coaching staffs and the players they have there now," Agnew said of the Cardinals and Panthers. "Both schools seem my type but I like Louisville a little bit more...it's more of a home town feeling."
Coach Pitino and his track record for developing big men for the NBA is also an important factor for Agnew.
"I'm just looking at what Coach Pitino can do for me," Agnew explained. "He can get me in great shape and get me ready if I have a chance to make it to the league."
Agnew said he may make his decision before the end of the summer but wants to wait and talk it over with his parents after this month is over.
"I'll wait until July's over and get back home and talk to my family," Agnew said of his decision making timeframe.
