All eight teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis field participated in post-season play last season, including five in the 2012 NCAA Tournament -- Louisville, Duke, Memphis, Missouri and VCU -- as well as three in the NIT with 2012 champion Stanford, runner-up Minnesota and NIT second round participant Northern Iowa. Six teams in the field have been included in early preseason top 25 rankings (Louisville, Duke, Memphis, Missouri, Minnesota and VCU).
The University of Northern Iowa posted a 20-14 record last season -- its fourth straight with at least 20 victories -- and fell by two points in the National Invitation Tournament second round, the Panthers' fourth straight post-season tournament appearance. UNI returns four starters, including Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Seth Tuttle who averaged 9.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and became the first freshman in the history of the MVC to lead the league in field goal percentage (65.2 percent).
