Reggie Bonnafon has never started a varsity game at quarterback for the Shamrocks and will play wide receiver this season, behind senior quarterback Travis Wright.
But the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Bonnafon already has offers from Louisville and Illinois and is getting a ton of other interest after showing his QB skills at camps.
"Sometimes it surprises me," Bonnafon said. "You have to wait your turn here at Trinity and Travis is a great quarterback. But I know me going to the camps and the schools getting to see me, I am just showing my talents."
Bonnafon will be in the lineup this season.
He said he's playing wide receiver and will be among a group of receivers that includes James Quick, one of the top 2012 players nationally at his position.
"The coaches called me into the office and told me they wanted me to try receiver," Bonnafon said. "It's a privilege to get to play at Trinity and for me to be on the field this year is great. I will get my time at quarterback."
Bonnafon, a dual-threat quarterback, had over 40 total touchdowns on the freshman team at Trinity. He was the backup and starting JV quarterback last season He completed 6 of 8 passes for 280 yards and one TD on the varsity level.
But for the second consecutive year, Bonnafon was a star at several camps.
He said his recruitment has "picked up a lot," and noted many of the schools are recruiting him as a quarterback. Besides the two schools that have offered, Bonnafon said he's heard a lot from Ohio State, Tennessee and Cincinnati.
Bonnafon said recently Notre Dame has started to get in contact.
As far as Louisville, Bonnafon said the Cardinals are "high on my list now."
"I am really high on Louisville," he said. "I haven't been a so-called Louisville fan but I have always kept up with Louisville and the football program.
"Once the recruitment started, I got a good feel for them."
