Saniya Chong was one of the highest-scoring players in the county last season, averaging 33.3 points a game as a junior at Ossining, N.Y.
Now, she's a coveted recruit.
The 5-foot-9 point guard has narrowed her list to four schools – Connecticut, Ohio State, Louisville and Maryland – and will make an official visit to the U of L campus on the weekend of Sept. 15.
"All four schools are legit and she's looking forward to the visits," Chong's coach Dan Ricci said. "It's really all about where she thinks she fits in the best at.
"They're all top-25 programs nationally. She's totally open."
Chong, who lives about a half-hour or so north of Madison Square Garden, also has visits to UConn and Ohio Set up. Ricci said she would make a decision soon after she makes all of her visits in the fall.
"She's been to UConn because it's local," Ricci said. "She did a drive-by Maryland but really wants to get out and see the schools."
A native of the Bronx, Chong averaged 33.8 points, 5.2 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 6 steals for her 20-4 team as a sophomore.
As a junior, Chong averaged 33.3 points, 9.7 assists, 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 steals and led Ossining to a 23-1 record. Her team reached the NYPHSAA Class 2-A state semifinals. He high game was 54 points.
During the AAU season, Chong hit for 50-plus points several times. She scored 92 in one two-game stretch during the month of May.
"She plays the point for us and she scores, but she would be just as happy getting her teammates the ball," Ricci said. "She's a very down-to-earth kid. She's not letting anything around her get to her. She's very humble."
