U of L women to entertain top 50 prospect

The weekend of Sept. 15 is going to be a busy one for University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz and his staff. Already hosting a top point guard, the Cardinals will also host the No. 46 player in the country. Check it out:

Lorain, Ohio, Southview forward Alexandra Harris has narrowed her list to three schools and will visit the University of Louisville on Sept. 15.

The 6-foot-3 Harris, who is ranked No. 46 in the country by HoopGurlz.com, will also visit Penn State (Sept. 1) and Michigan (Sept. 8).

"Everybody has a shot right now," Harris' AAU coach Kevin McNamara said. "Penn State has been on her the longest, but all three schools have a shot.

"Louisville is the most recent interest. Coach (Cameron) Newbauer was recruiting her at Georgia when she was a freshman. So, she and I both have a great relationship with coach Newbauer and when he got to Louisville, he started recruiting her."

Harris, who averaged 12 points and 15 rebounds as a junior, played the post for her high school team last season and a face-up four for her AAU team. McNamara said she would play the point guard position in high school next season.

McNamara said the biggest comment he gets from college coaches about Harris is "how she is going to be such a better college player. The words they say is that her ceiling is out of control."

According to McNamara, Harris has been in touch with another U of L top target Emmonie Henderson – since the two prospects played against each other during an event in Louisville last month.

Harris also has "really good bloodlines," according to McNamara. She has several uncles and other relatives who have played ball. Her cousin, Raymont Harris, played running back at Ohio State and then spent six years in the NFL.

Cardinal Authority will keep up with Harris.
