U of L women begin to host visitors

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz is hosting some of the top prospects in the country over the next few months. The Cardinals kick off the visits this weekend with one of the top Class of 2014 players.

The University of Louisville women's basketball team begins hosting prospects this weekend when one of the top 2014 players in the country comes to town.

The Cardinals will host Clinton-Massie, Ohio, junior forward Sydney Brackemyre on Saturday, beginning a 10-week stretch when U of L coach Jeff Walz and his staff will be busy most weekends with top prospects on campus.

HoopGurlz.com ranks the 6-foot Brackemyre as the No. 28 prospect nationally in the Class of 2014. She already has offers from U of L, Michigan, Dayton, Xavier, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana and Vanderbilt.

Louisville is expected to host a few younger in-state prospects, which could include Bell County top 2015 prospect Maci Morris, for the U of L-Kentucky football game next weekend at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The U of L women's team will then host Brianna Ruiz and Imani Wright for official visits on weekend of Sept. 7.

The 5-foot-10 Ruiz is from Roseville, Calif., Del Oro High School and has more than 20 offers, including Kansas, Penn State and N.C. State. HoopGurlz ranks Ruiz No. 65 in the Class of 2013.

Wright is the No. 31 player in the '13 class and is a 5-foot-11 guard from Hooks, Tx., Liberty Eylau High School. She is looking at Baylor, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee and Kentucky among several other schools.

On the weekend of Sept 15, U of L will host Alex Harris and Saniya Chong for official visits. Both are top players in the Class of 2013.

The 6-foot-3 Harris is from Lorain, Ohio, Southview and is ranked No. 46 in the class. She will also visit Penn State (Sept. 1) and Michigan (Sept. 8).

The 5-foot-9 Chong averaged 33.3 points a game as a junior at Ossining, N.Y. She is also looking at Connecticut, Ohio State and Maryland.

There will be a few others later in the month but the biggest weekend of all will be the last weekend of October when the two top '13 targets visit.

No. 1 ranked Mercedes Russell, who is down to U of L and Tennessee, is expected to make a visit that weekend along with Edwardsville, Ill., forward Emmonie Henderson, who is ranked No. 40 in the class.
