Top women's PG 'loved' Louisville visit

The University of Louisville women's basketball staff hosted two top prospects last weekend. One has already committed elsewhere but the other had "a great time," according to her coach. She'll make a decision next month.

Saniya Chong, who was one of the highest-scoring players in the county last season, made her official visit to the University of Louisville last weekend.

Chong and her coach, Dan Ricci, arrived in Louisville on Saturday and spent time with the players and staff through early Monday.

"It went well," Ricci said. "She enjoyed it. She loves the staff and she loves the players. I think she loved the whole family-type atmosphere the program seems to have; she just loved everything about the place."

Chong, who averaged 33.3 points a game as a junior at Ossining, N.Y. High School, is set to visit Ohio State and Connecticut early next month before making a decision. Those are the final three schools on her list.

"The plan is for her to make a decision after the visits," Ricci said, noting the UConn visit is slated for Oct. 11. "I don't know how long it will take her to make a decision but that's the plan. Those are the only places she'll visit."

A native of the Bronx, Chong averaged 33.8 points, 5.2 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 6 steals for her 20-4 team as a sophomore.

As a junior, Chong averaged 33.3 points, 9.7 assists, 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 steals and led Ossining to a 23-1 record. Her team reached the NYPHSAA Class 2-A state semifinals. He high game was 54 points.

During the AAU season, Chong hit for 50-plus points several times. She scored 92 in one two-game stretch during the month of May.

"Louisville was her first visit, but she had a really good time," Ricci said.

Ohio top 50 prospect Alex Harris also visited U of L last weekend but then committed to Penn State when she returned home.
