University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz and his staff have the Cardinals in the recruiting process with at least four of the top players in the country, including No. 1 Mercedes Russell.
Now, the Cardinals have made a move on another top player.
Walz recently made a visit to Belleville, Ill., to watch one of the nation's top junior-college guards – Janelle Cannon.
The 5-foot-9 Cannon plays at Southwestern Illinois College and is considered an elite prospect. She original signed with Minnesota and also Illinois State after her high school career in Wheeling, Ill.
Louisville, Washington, DePaul and several other schools are recruiting Cannon, who also played last season at SW Illinois.
In high school, Cannon was a three-year all-conference and all-area selection and helped Wheeling to three consecutive Mid-Suburban League titles. She averaged 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as a junior.
During her senior season, Cannon was named second-team All-State after averaging 19 point, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Cannon could visit U of L in the coming weeks.
