University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino is expected to get a contract extension that would likely keep him at U of L until he retires.
Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich have talked about the extension for several weeks. On Monday, Jurich received permission from the U of L Athletic Association personnel committee to work on the extension.
The new deal would likely extend Pitino's current deal from 2017 until the end of the 2022 school year.
"He's somebody who is 60 going on 35, we see it every day," Jurich said last week during a news conference. "He has more energy than any human being alive. I think it would be a crime to see him retire."
Jurich is expected to send the completed deal to the full U of L Athletic Association board, which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday.
Pitino has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Pitino is beginning his 11th season at U of L and is coming off a Final Four appearance. The Cardinals are one of the top ranked teams in the country.
Cardinal Authority will have complete coverage on Tuesday.
