BRIDGES EARNS HONOR
Bridges, who is a standout at Flowery Branch, Ga., High School, received the Atlanta Falcons' weekly Captain in the Community award. The organization gives the award out each week to a local player.
The program recognized high school football student-athletes who demonstrate strong leadership both on and off the field. USA Football, the official Youth Football Development partner of the NFL, selects the winners each week.
Bridges has been a key force for Flowery Branch, which has won seven in a row and now had a 7-2 record.
CONNER QB HAS STRONG SEASON
Conner High School junior Drew Barker has had a solid season.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Barker helped Conner to an 8-2 regular-season record and finishes with 2,863 total yards. He passed for 1,697 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,166 yards and 14 TDs.
"I feel like I've played well this year," Barker told Fox SportsNEXT's Brian Eldridge. "I have played much better than last season."
Conner opens the 5-A playoffs this weekend against Montgomery County.
QUICK SETS STATE RECORD
Top 2013 U of L target James Quick, a wide receiver from Trinity High School, set a new state record last weekend in a 45-42 loss to Cincinnati Moeller.
Quick hauled in eight passes for 102 yards and now has 273 catches for 4,244 yards and 53 touchdowns during his career.
The 273 career receptions breaks the old mark of 266 set by former Male High School Mr. Football Montrell Jones. Quick now ranks No. 7 nationally in career receptions, just six behind Cincinnati Bengals star A.J. Green.
Quick ranks in the top four for career yards and career touchdowns. The state leader in both is former Somerset star John Cole, who had 5,031 career yards and 69 career touchdown catches.
