Fla. DT Shortridge commits to Louisville

Kyle Shortridge, a defensive tackle and former Purdue University commitment from the state of Florida, became the eighth University of Louisville commitment in the Class of 2013. Shortridge made a visit to U of L over the weekend and called U of L coach Charlie Strong on Monday afternoon to confirm the commitment.

Defensive tackle Kyle Shortridge (Loxahatchee, Fla./Seminole Ridge High School) decommitted recently from Purdue University after a coaching change.

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Shortridge had phone calls from a lot of schools but really only considered one and on Monday made his commitment official.

"Yes sir, I just committed to coach (Charlie) Strong," Shortridge told Cardinal Authority minutes after he gave a verbal commitment to Louisville.

Shortridge made a visit to the U of L campus over the weekend, watching the team practice for the Sugar Bowl on Friday night and Saturday morning and spending time with the coaches and players.

Shortridge, who had also previously been committed to Wake Forest, is the No. 71 ranked defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com.

He's the eighth commitment in the Class of 2013 for Louisville, including two other prospects from the Sunshine State and one other defensive tackle.

Cardinal Authority will have more later.
