Expected to be out until the start of Big East Conference play, University of Louisville center Gorgui Dieng has been released to do individual instruction and had the cast removed from his broken left wrist.

U of L coach Rick Pitino said on Wednesday night that Dieng would be released to start practicing on Sunday and is expected to play a few minutes on Dec. 22 against Western Kentucky University.

Pitino said Dieng is expected to be able to play the entire game Dec. 29 against Kentucky.

Dieng suffered the broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist, against Missouri last month at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. He has missed four games and will miss Saturday's game at Memphis.

Dieng is averaging 8.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and two rebounds in five games. He was among the top 50 candidates for the Wooden Award and Naismith Award.
