But Jones said he had to make a return trip.
So, last weekend he was back at the KFC Yum Center – making the trip with his father – to watch the Cardinals in a 70-68 loss to Syracuse.
"I had a great time," Jones said. "It was a great game. I don't like that we lost but it was fun to see the atmosphere and watch my teammates for next year play.
"I felt like I was already part of it and felt a lot of love from the fans. They knew who I was when I was walking around, so I know they have a lot of die-hard fans that follow their recruits."
The 5-foot-10 Jones is averaging 27.3 points a game – ranking him No. 3 among all of junior-college players – and is considered the top JUCO player in the country.
Jones said he felt "really anxious" watching U of L play on Saturday.
"I was thinking about that, I really wanted to get out there and play," Jones said. "I can't wait to be able to get up there and play."
