The University of Louisville softball team is off to a fast start.
The Cardinals are 12-2 and ranked No. 15 in the USA Today coaches' poll after the first three weekends of the season and heading into a five-game slate this weekend in the Citrus Classic at the Walt Disney World Complex in Orlando.
"We're really pleased," U of L softball coach Sandy Pearsall said. "But it's going to get tougher. We'll really find out where we're at this weekend."
The Cardinals will play No. 5 Texas and Temple on Friday, while meeting Longwood and Georgia Tech on Saturday and No. 11 LSU on Sunday.
U of L will then return home for 10 games in 15 days, including games against No. 14 Michigan, North Carolina, Iowa and Indiana.
"It gets tougher and tougher," Pearsall said. "But I think it's going to be good for us. We have a little confidence and now we'll see what we can do."
Louisville is batting .328 as a team with seven players hitting .300 or better, including a team-high .440 by sophomore Kayla Soles. Junior Katie Keller has a team-high five home runs, 15 runs and 18 RBIs.
Junior pitcher Caralisa Connell (8-1) has been solid with a 1.97 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 49.2 innings. Junior Rachel LeCoq is 4-1 with a 1.08 ERA and 17 strikeouts. U of L already has five strikeouts.
