Quentin Snider didn't have his best game of the season but still made a successful debut at the Kentucky Boys' Sweet 16.
Snider, a University of Louisville commitment, had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead Ballard past Johnson Central 75-54 in the opening round of the 96th annual state tournament in Rupp Arena.
"It was nice to get out here and just play, I was really hyped," Snider said. "But it felt good and the atmosphere was great. I was kind of nervous the first couple of minutes, but then after that it was good."
Snider was just 7 of 19 from the field, including 2 of 10 from three-point range, and turned the ball over five times. He played 25 minutes.
"I was just missing shots," Snider said. "I think I got nine points in the first quarter and then I missed a few shots. But we won the game."
Ballard will play the Knott Central-Clay County winner in the 8 p.m. quarterfinal on Friday night. The state semifinals are Saturday and the title game Sunday.
