U of L on 'top' for Georgia LB Dukes

The University of Louisville football staff landed one commitment on the day of the Spring Game and had a bunch of other prospects on visits. One top Georgia prospect, Detric Dukes, was close to pulling the trigger. Cardinal Authority has his story:

Tucker, Ga., linebacker Detric Dukes put the University of Louisville among his top three schools – with Auburn and Vanderbilt – after a visit to the Cardinals' Junior Day event back in February.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Dukes made a trip back to Louisville on Saturday for the U of L Spring Game and said he "thought about committing to the Cardinals."

But Dukes said he left "very impressed" and was going to think about his decision for a little longer before making a final decision.

"I might make (a commitment) in the next week or so, but I'm not sure," Dukes said. "(Louisville) right now is my top school.

"There's no one with them right now."

A three-star linebacker, Dukes said he was impressed with the hole package that U of L had to offers, including the 33,000 fans in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

It was the first time Dukes had an opportunity to see a game in PJCS.

"I loved it; it was a great visit," Dukes said. "The players are good and the staff is great. I just loved the atmosphere and the fans seem so loyal.

"I really think the staff is very honest and want the best for you and you can talk to them about anything. I really like that a lot."

When asked if he paid attention to any specific player, Dukes said linebacker Preston Brown because "he reminds me a lot of myself."

Dukes also has offers from Auburn, Vandy, Indiana, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Connecticut and others.
