Georgia LBer Dukes commits to U of L

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong has landed a second commitment out of the group of visitors at the Spring Game. Tucker, Ga., linebacker Detric Dukes gave Strong a commitment on Monday.

Tucker, Ga., linebacker Detric Dukes was high on the University of Louisville after a visit to Junior Day in February.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Dukes made the trip back to Louisville last weekend for the Spring Game and left so impressed that he committed.

Dukes told Cardinal Authority on Saturday night the commitment was coming soon and on Monday afternoon he called Charlie Strong to make it official.

"It wasn't just the game but just the whole staff and everything," Dukes said. "The staff is great and they made me and my parents feel so comfortable.

"That was a big thing for me."

A three-star linebacker, Dukes said he was impressed with the hole package that U of L had to offers, including the 33,000 fans in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

It was the first time Dukes had an opportunity to see a game in PJCS.

"I loved it," said Dukes, who was also considering Auburn and Vanderbilt in the end. "I really like everything about Louisville."

Dukes also has offers from Auburn, Vandy, Indiana, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Connecticut and others.

Dukes led Tucker in tackles and sacks as a junior and said the interest from the U of L staff came not too long after the season.

"They made contact and we just started building a relationship," he said.

Dukes is the fifth commitment in the Class of 2014 for the Cardinals and the third in five days. Columbus, Ohio, Hamilton Township tight end Micky Crum committed on Saturday before attending the Spring Game.
