Ballew the latest pledge for Louisville

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong said Ohio was one of the places the Cardinals wanted to recruit heavier in the future. It appears to be working out as the Cardinals landed a second commitment from Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

Cincinnati Walnut Hills safety Nilijah Ballew made a recent visit to the University of Louisville and on Sunday gave the Cardinals a commitment.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Ballew is considered one of the top prospects in the Cincinnati-area in the Class of 2014.

"I have developed a great relationship the coaches and I feel like it is the place for me," Ballew said. "Also, I feel that Louisville is about to come up big and I want to be part of it."

Ballew also had offers from Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) with looks from Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and others.

"You can see they are well coached and I really like coach (Vance) Bedford," Ballew said of the defensive coordinator. "When I was watching film with the defensive backs I felt extremely comfortable and you could see the players and coaches were all joking around and having fun.

"But when it got down to business, they knew exactly what they were doing. You could see they know how to get the players comfortable but also get straight too it and knew what they were talking about."

Ballew is the ninth member of the Class of 2014 for U of L, which now has seven commitments in 10 days. He joins Columbus, Ohio, tight end Micky Crum as the second member of the class from Ohio.
