The University of Louisville softball team lost 3-1 on Sunday to Notre Dame in the regular-season finale. The Cardinals finished the season 45-10 overall and 18-4 in the conference and are the No. 3 seed in this week's Big East Tournament.

The University of Louisville softball team has landed in the No. 3 seed for the Big East Conference Tournament, which starts on Thursday in Tampa, Fla.

The Cardinals were playing for the Big East regular-season title on Sunday but dropped a 3-1 decision to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Notre Dame (19-3 in league play) won the league title, while South Florida (18-3) finishes second and U of L third with an 18-4 mark.

With the No. 3 seed, Louisville will play sixth-seeded Syracuse (23-28) in the opening round of the tournament at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The Cardinals took two of three games from Syracuse back in March.

The U of L-Syracuse winner would then meet the winner of No. 2 South Florida and Providence on Friday evening. The title game is slated for Saturday.

U of L (45-10) has been in the Big East Tournament every year since the school joined the conference in 2006.
