U of L softball No. 15 seed; hosts regional

The University of Louisville softball team earned a 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid on Sunday night, garnering the No. 15 seed in the field of 64. The Cardinals will host a regional on opening weekend of the tournament in Ulmer Stadium. Cardinal Authority has all the details.

The University of Louisville softball team gets home-field advantage in the NCAA Tournament once again this season.

The Cardinals earned the No. 15 seed for the second straight year when the pairings were announced on Sunday night and will host a regional this week.

The Cardinals (46-11) will host IPFW (32-14), the Summit League champion, on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in the double-elimination regional. UCLA (37-18) and UAB (37-16) will play in the 5 p.m. game.

The winners' and losers' will play on Saturday with the championship game of the regional slated for Sunday.

U of L is making its 10th straight NCAA appearance and the Cardinals also hosted a regional in 2009, '11 and '12.

The winner of the Louisville Regional will then be matched up with the winner of the Gainesville Regional in a Super Regional May 23-26.

The World Series is May 30-June 5 in Oklahoma City.
