U of L baseball will host NCAA regional

The University of Louisville baseball team will be one of 16 host schools for the NCAA Tournament regional play next weekend. The NCAA announced on its website on Sunday night the selections for regional sites.

The Cardinals (46-12) lost both games in the Big East Tournament but still gets to host a four-team regional the first weekend.

The first two games will be on Friday night with play continuing on Saturday and Sunday in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Official pairings for the NCAA Tournament will be released on Monday at noon. The show will be live on ESPNU.

U of L won the Big East regular-season title with 16 consecutive wins to end the regular-season and is ranked No. 16 in the college baseball RPIs.

The Cardinals will be hosting the regional for the third time in five years, also hosting in 2009 and 2010. It marks the fourth time in seven years there will be postseason baseball at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Tickets for the regional will go on sale on Monday at www.gocards.com or by phone on Tuesday morning. Single-session tickets will go on sale on Friday.
