Jurich promotes from within to fill AD spot

During the Cardinal Caravan stop at Captains Quarters with about 950 University of Louisville fans watching on, athletic director Tom Jurich introduced a new associate athletic director. Cardinal Authority was on hand for the announcement.

A former track and field standout at the University of Louisville, Christine Krellwitz has a new position with the Cardinals.

U of L athletic director Tom Jurich introduced Krellwitz on Tuesday night during the Cardinal Caravan stop at Captains Quarters on the River as the school's new Associate Athletic Director.

She will oversee the U of L track and field and cross country programs along with women's basketball and volleyball. She's one of several people Jurich has put in place to split up the duties held by former Associate AD Julie Hermann.

Krellwitz, who said she is "extremely excited" about the new position, was the captain of the U of L track and field team where she competed in heptathlon, high jump and hammer throw. She also spent time as the U of L track and field director of operations and as the director of special events for U of L athletics.

Since January, Krellwitz has worked with Cardinal Athletic Fund.

Mark Jurich, Associate Athletic Director for Development, will now oversee baseball, softball and men's and women's golf, while John Carns – the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance – will oversee tennis.

Amy Seng, a former women's soccer player, will oversee men's and women's soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and rowing. She had been in the role of Student Development but will be bumped up to an Assistant AD.

Jurich said Christine Simatacolos, a former assistant athletic director at U of L, is returning and will oversee swimming and student life. She has been working in a role as an Associate Director at the NCAA.
