Patrick Ewing's daughter enrolled at U of L

University of Louisville fans don't be surprised if you see Hall of Fame basketball player Patrick Ewing around campus this fall. The 11-time NBA All-Star has a daughter who has enrolled at U of L. Cardinal Authority has the story.

Hall of Fame basketball player Patrick Ewing could be spending some time in Louisville this fall but it won't have anything to do with basketball.

Ewing, who is a former Georgetown star who was picked No. 1 in the 1985 NBA Draft, instead will be watching the Louisville volleyball team. She's a middle blocker and is working out with the Cardinals.

Randi Ewing, one of Patrick Ewing's three children, has enrolled at U of L for her final season of eligibility and will play on the volleyball team. Randi Ewing is a senior and recently graduated from Fordham.

"It's a neat situation," U of L coach Anne Kordes said. "She only has one year left. She graduated from Fordham and has another year. She's going to grad school and wanted something different and I think she wanted to test her abilities.

"I coached against her when I was at Saint Louis. She's a great kid. I had someone call me and say, ‘Do you need a middle (blocker) for one year?' I was like, ‘Have you read my mind?' So it's worked out well for both sides."

The 6-foot Ewing redshirted as a freshman at Fordham because of shin problems but started 16 of 22 games as a sophomore and led the team in blocks. She was named All-Northeast Region as a sophomore when she led the team in blocks.

Ewing was named Atlantic-10 Defensive Player of the Week several times last season and became just the fourth player in Fordham history to record 300 career blocks. She started all 32 games for the Rams.

A major in communication and media studies, Kordes said Ewing went to the Olympics as a production assistant for NBC.

"She's amazing," Kordes said. "We're happy to have her."
