Former coach thinks Cards can run the table

Former University of Louisville coach and current ESPN College Gameday analyst Lee Corso attended the Governor's Cup Luncheon, the kickoff for the Louisville-Kentucky football game, had some great things to say about the Cardinals. Cardinal Authority was there and has this report:

Former University of Louisville football coach Lee Corso said he has to be careful when he talks about the Cardinals because of his gig at ESPN on College Gameday

"I have to watch what I say," Corso said with a laugh. "I can't really say this, but I love them. Louisville is one of the very best teams in the country.

"I hope I had a little to do with it (when he was head coach from 1969-72) but it's fun for me to see, and it's going to keep getting better for them. "

Corso noted with athletic director Tom Jurich the program "will continue to rise," and said he believes the national perception of the program changed last season when the Cardinals decked Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

"The national interest is there, it's unbelievable," he said. "Nationally, Louisville is getting a lot of respect and people don't understand that, the program is getting respect all over the place nationally."

Corso said he didn't want to put a jinx on the Cardinals but said, "there's no question in my mind they can win them all," and finish undefeated.

"The only thing that will hurt them – perception wise – is the schedule and people saying, ‘Who did they play?'" he said. "But they will probably be favored in all of their games and they should win them all.

"And I, for one, think if they win them all they will have a chance to get into the (BCS) championship game at the end of the season."

Corso also called junior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater "one of the leaders" for the Heisman Trophy this season. Bridgewater is considered one of the top prospects for next year's NFL Draft, should he come out of school early.

"To win the Heisman, you have to have a Heisman-moment," Corso said. "Now, Johnny Football had a Heisman game – when (Texas A&M) beat Alabama, he won the Heisman. The fact is they have to win them all. Win and Bridgewater play well and they have a great chance to win (the title) and he has a shot at the Heisman.

"He just needs one of those Heisman moments."
