With already two top commitments in the Class of 2014, University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz has added one of the best players in the country.
Mariya Moore, a 6-foot-1 wing from Hercules, Calif., Salesian High School, committed to the Cardinals on Wednesday. She picked U of L over a bunch of schools, including UCLA, Washington, Kentucky and California.
As a junior, Moore was named Metro-Area Player of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle after averaging 18.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 4.0 steals a game while leading her team to a 29-8 record. Salesian lost in the state final despite 35 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals from Moore.
She averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 3.9 steals as a sophomore after 17.2 points and 8.5 rebounds as a freshman.
Moore is ranked No. 22 by the All-Star Girls Report, checks in at No. 25 by FullCourt.com, No. 31 on ProspectsNation.com and is No. 33 per ESPN.com. She's No. 28 in the overall composite women's rankings and is a top-five wing.
The Cardinals already have commitments from Sydney Brackemyre of Harveysburg, Ohio, and Ariana Freeman of Manassas, Va. Freeman is also ranked in the top 35 by most of the services.
