Three current Cards set for adidas Nations

Three current members of the University of Louisville basketball team and two U of L commitments are headed to adidas Nations this weekend in Garden Grove, Calif. The event is billed as the premier international grassroots basketball program and will be held Friday through Monday.

Defending national champion Louisville will be well represented when the rosters for participants and counselors are released on Friday for the prestigious adidas Nations event to be held this weekend in Garden Grove, Calif.

Two current Louisville commitments for the Class of 2014 and several top targets will be participating in the event, while three current members of the U of L team will participate in the event as camp counselors.

Pool play games and counselor games will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while the championships will be played Monday at Long Beach City College.

Gorgui Dieng and Peyton Siva participated as counselors last season.

Senior All-American Russ Smith, sophomore forward Montrezl Harrell and junior-college point guard Chris Jones will all participate as counselors.

Adidas selects top college players from schools all over the country to participate as counselors during the event.

Smith just finished playing in Estonia, while Harrell is coming off a gold medal win in the U-19 World Championships. Jones is the heralded incoming JUCO recruit, who is expected to start at the point guard position next season.

U of L commitments JaQuan Lyle of Huntington Prep and Shaqquan Aaron of Seattle Rainier Beach High School will also both be competing.

Among the top targets for the Cardinals competing in the event will be Jaylen Johnson, who has become a U of L priority.
