Cards in the mix for top 2015 big man

Elijah Thomas, one of the top big men in the Class of 2015, already holds an offer from the University of Louisville and has interest in the Cardinals. Cardinal Authority finds out what the interest level is between the two parties.

With offers from already around 20 high-major schools, Texas junior big man Elijah Thomas was always looking in the stands during summer ball.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Thomas wanted to see who was watching.

"A lot of colleges are calling," Thomas said. "I'll look around to see who came to the game. It's fun for me to see if the ones who say they are coming, show up.

"I'm having a lot of fun with (the recruiting process)."

Thomas missed some time during the summer because of tendinitis and said he struggled some early on with his conditioning because of the injury.

But playing with Team Texas at the Las Vegas Classic last week, Thomas was back to his dominating self. He's ranked as the No. 10 player overall in the Scout.com Class of 2015 national rankings.

"It's been real cool for me," Thomas said of the summer. "I was injured and out for three weeks. I was actually on bed rest, so I wasn't in great shape. I worked hard to get back in shape and now I am at 240.

"My knees feel a lot better. They say my growth plates are still wide open."

Thomas confirmed that Louisville has offered and called the Cardinals a "great program and they're coming off a great season."

Arizona, Baylor, Connecticut, Illinois, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Missouri are among the others that have offered.

Thomas, who attends Prime Prep near Dallas, said he doesn't have any visits set up at this point, noting he hopes to take some this fall. He said he hopes to check out Louisville at some point this fall or winter.

"I don't have any visits planned right now," he said. "I'm just going to wait and see what happens. I don't know how it will all work out."
