Louisville hoops: '14 recruiting big board

The summer recruiting period has come and gone and the University of Louisville men's basketball staff spent a lot of time on the road, evaluating prospects. The Cardinals' staff have narrowed the list to around 10 players the staff is expecting to sign at least three more prospects – all big men – for the Class of 2014. Cardinal Authority takes a look at those prospects in order of importance.

The University of Louisville basketball staff finished the evaluation process for the summer and the Cardinals are still in the mix with about 10 prospects. The Cardinals will try to add three big men to the class of 2014 with backcourt commitments JaQuan Lyle and Shaqquan Aaron. Here's a look at the players the Cardinals are still after in the '14 class:

Trey Lyles
Position:
Power forward
School (City, State):
Indianapolis Tech
Rating:
No. 4
The latest:
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Lyles has long been the top target for the staff and remains on top heading out of the summer. Lyles is from Indianapolis Tech and was slowed some this summer by injuries. But U of L was there at almost every game he played during the three evaluation periods. He's narrowed his list to four but word is it will be a dogfight between Louisville and Kentucky.
Profile:

Jaylen Johnson
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Ypsilanti, Mich.
Rating:
No. 97
The latest:
Johnson started the summer way down the list but after several sensational weeks has worked his way near the top. He visited U of L in June, the Cardinals offered and have been hot on his trail every since. Johnson is still only 16 and he's become a priority for the Cardinals' staff. Michigan State is in there and Oregon is trying to work some magic, but it appears coming out of the summer that the Cardinals lead.
Profile:

Myles Turner
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Euless, Texas, Trinity
Rating:
No. 5
The latest:
The 7-foot, 240-pound Turner went from unranked and unknown to every major school in the country after him. He played solid again in Las Vegas and the U of L staff was there for almost every second of his games. Turner has 25 on his list right now and is expected to narrow it soon. The Cardinals have a good shot to make the final eight and after that – it's a crapshoot.
Profile:

Cliff Alexander
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Chicago Curie
Rating:
No. 6
The latest:
Louisville made the cut for Alexander and will get a visit sometime this fall from the top player who is from Chicago. Alexander was a beast for much of the summer, dominating several games with Rick Pitino watching in July. He's really on the same level as Turner – a player the Cardinals' would love to have on the roster. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
Profile:

Cinmeon Bowers
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Chipola, Fla., College
Rating:
N/A
The latest:
The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Bowers is a Chane Behanan-type player with more skill and has a ton of colleges in the mix. Louisville has been in contact for a couple of months and Rick Pitino saw him at a junior-college event in mid-July. Expect Bowers to visit Louisville and the Cardinals are in the mix.
Profile:

Angel Delgado
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Huntington, W. Va., Prep
Rating:
No. 61
The latest:
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound native of the Dominican Republic is a prospect who rose the most in the eyes of the coaches this summer. He's a beast on the board and has Louisville high on his list. Some suggest the team that doesn't land Trey Lyles (U of L or UK) will get Delgado. He's quite a prize catch for someone.
Profile:

Elbert Robinson
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Kennedale, Texas
Rating:
No. 47
The latest:
The 7-foot, 300-pound Robinson was near the top of the list, moved almost off the list and is now back as an option again. He had an up-and-down summer and the biggest question is can he play in Pitino's system? He wants to visit U of L this fall and is still a major option.
Profile:

Michael Humphrey
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Phoenix, Ariz., Sunnyslope
Rating:
NR
The latest:
The 6-foot-9, 215-pound Humphrey became a hot commodity late in the summer and added a scholarship offer from Louisville after Rick Pitino saw him play in Las Vegas. Humphrey is a big-time athlete and very physical in the post. He's a kid the Cardinals were late on but still are in the mix. He'll narrow his list soon.
Profile:

Goodluck Okonoboh
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Wilbraham, Mass., and Monson Academy
Rating:
No. 37
The latest:
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Okonoboh saw his stock drop as much as anyone all summer in the final week of July with a disappointing effort in Las Vegas. Okonoboh is a perfect example of why staffs need to evaluate players more and more to determine if they fit in the school's style. Not sure we'll ever see any Goodluck on the U of L roster but he's not totally off the list yet.
Profile:

OTHER TARGETS STILL ON THE LIST: Jonah Bolden, Isaiah Whitehead, Devin Robinson, Kelly Oubre.
