Ford had a "good feeling" about U of L

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong heard some good news on Tuesday as the Cardinals' began fall camp for this season. U of L landed a 24th verbal commitment in the Class of 2014 – Poona Ford. Cardinal Authority has the latest from Ford on his verbal commitment to the Cardinals.

Poona Ford said he knew the University of Louisville was the place for him on a visit to the campus in early July.

On Tuesday night, Ford confirmed it with a commitment.

The 6-foot, 290-pound Ford – a four-star defensive tackle from Hilton Head Island, S.C., High School picked the Cardinals over South Carolina and Tennessee. He had more than a dozen other high-major offers.

"I just had a really good feeling," Ford told Cardinal Authority. "I love what coach (Charlie) Strong is doing there and what he's building. They're really doing great things there. I had a feeling that I was welcomed when I was there."

Ford is ranked as the No. 24 defensive tackle in the country by and checks in as the No. 291 player overall in the Scout300.

As a junior, Ford had 154 tackles, 44 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

When asked what the Louisville fans can expect when he arrives on campus next fall, Ford responded with: "A show."

Ford said he wanted to make sure Louisville was the "place for me," and felt like tonight was "a good night to tell people I'm a Cardinal."

I'm excited and can't wait to get there," he said.

Ford is the 24th verbal commitment in the Class of 2014 for the Cardinals and the third from South Carolina, joining Union, S.C., wide receiver T.J. Foster and Greenville, S.C., safety Zykiesis Cannon.

The Cardinals now have 10 defensive commitments in the '14 class.
