Cards 'definitely in the mix' for top junior

One of the top prospects in the Class of 2015, Malik Newman drew the attention of most of the country's top colleges this summer. The Mo Williams Academy standout has a Who's Who of college basketball watching his games, including Louisville. Do the Cardinals have a shot to land Newman?

Malik Newman has his pick of college.

One of the top prospects in the Class of 2015, Newman is being recruited by all of the elite programs in college basketball. He put on a show for the coaches this summer with the Mo Williams Academy travel team.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound native of Jackson, Miss., has been rumored to be looking heavily at Kentucky and Duke.

But after an event in Las Vegas, Newman confirmed to Cardinal Authority that "Louisville is definitely in the mix. I like that program a lot."

"Yes, they are definitely in the mix," he added.

Newman also had North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kansas, Florida, Mississippi State and Florida State among others tracking him this summer.

"A lot of coaches have been watching me," Newman said.

But Newman said he's also not fretting over the recruiting process at this point, making sure his game keeps improving instead of talking about colleges.

"I have been working hard and just have major confidence in my game right now," Newman said. "I just go after whoever is in front of me.

"I know I can still get better and I'm working hard to be the best."
