Big man Onuaku sets visit with Louisville

The University of Louisville basketball staff has expanded its search for big men in the Class of 2014. The Cardinals have extended a scholarship offer and will get a visit in the coming weeks from a top big man. Cardinal Authority has the scoop.

With the potential to add three big men to the Class of 2014, University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino has his staff scouring the country.

And it appears the U of L staff has another line in the water.

Louisville has extended an offer to Upper Marlboro, Md., Riverdale Baptist big man Chinanu Onuaku, who is ranked as the No. 8 center in the '14 class by and overall the No. 64 player in the class.

Onuaku confirmed to Cardinal Authority on Wednesday afternoon that he will make an official visit to U of L on Aug. 31. He is also scheduled to make visits to Miami and Cincinnati and has Maryland high on his list.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound Onuaku is still only 16 years old and played his spring and summer ball with D.C. Assault.

Louisville coaches watched Onuaku several times during the summer evaluation period but only recently jumped into the mix with the prospect. The Cardinals extended an offer to him last week.

FoxSportsNEXT basketball recruiting analyst Rob Harrington evaluated Onuaku several times this summer and noted:

"The 6-10, 250-pound center is a physical rebounder who does his best work on the defensive glass," Harrington said. "He uses his size and strength to seal off would-be offensive rebounders.

"His footwork and low block offense remain a work in progress, but he's competitive head-up against nearly every big man in the class with just a few exceptions. As such, he'll big a major contributor at the next level."

Cardinal Authority will keep you posted on the recruitment.
