The Cardinals ended camp in shoulder pads and shorts, as the focus of the day was understanding the pregame routine and showing "guys exactly where they line up, how we warm up and then we came back with a mock script and just put them in different situations."
Beginning on Monday, the attention will be the Sunday, September 1 season opener against Ohio at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. It's a welcome change for the players.
"They know there is an opponent to hit, instead of just hitting each other," said Strong.
While offensive lineman Kamran Joyer won't be available for game one, the Cardinals do continue to recover from the minor injuries suffered during grueling fall camp. On Saturday, sophomore defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins is the latest to return to practice after being nicked up.
"Kamran won't play in the first game," said Strong, adding that most of the injury concerns are more "just bruises and trying to get guys back."
The Cardinals will return to the practice fields on Monday as they begin game preparation.
