U of L DE Mauldin injured in accident

Just five days before the season-opener, University of Louisville defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin has been injured in a moped accident. Mauldin was injured in an accident on campus Tuesday morning. Cardinal Authority has the latest.

University of Louisville junior defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin was rushed to Jewish Hospital earlier this morning after a moped accident.

Mauldin was riding his moped down Floyd Street on campus when a car struck him. The car then sped off.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Mauldin was transported to Jewish Hospital where U of L spokesman Rocco Gasparro said he was "alert and responsive." Gasparro said in a release that more tests were being run.

The school sent out an update around 1 p.m. saying all tests had come back positive, He will be kept overnight for precautionary measures.

A junior from Atlanta, Mauldin has 22 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 11 games last season for the Cardinals. He's expected to be one of the top defensive players for the No. 9 Cardinals this season.

U of L opens the season on Sunday against Ohio University at 3:30 p.m.
