U of L sets new season-ticket mark

The University of Louisville has announced Sunday's game against Ohio University is sold out and that the Cardinals have sold a school-record number of season tickets for this football season. Cardinal Authority has the details.

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong has praised the fans since they showed up in force at last year's AllState Sugar Bowl.

"We have the best fans in the country," Strong has said repeatedly during U of L's preseason fall camp.

Now, the fans have proven it once again.

U of L announced on Wednesday that Sunday's opener against Ohio University is a sell out and that the Cardinals have now sold a school-record season tickets.

The U of L ticket office had a few seats left available on Wednesday morning but sold out for the 55,000-seat capacity at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

U of L said there are about 700 tickets left for the Sept. 7 game against Eastern Kentucky University at noon.

The school has sold 45,627 total season-tickets, an increase from the 43,510 sold last season. U of L was able to sell more this season due to the number of tickets returned by visiting teams for the UPS Flight Deck.

The Cardinals host Ohio U. on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
