U of L hoops '14 recruiting board

The University of Louisville has a pair of commitments in the Class of 2014 basketball recruiting class. Now, the Cardinals will begin hosting some top '14 targets this weekend in an attempt to fill out the class. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the top U of L targets still in play.

The University of Louisville basketball staff begins hosting official visitors in the Class of 2014 this weekend with two top targets coming to town.

The Cardinals have a pair of commitments already in the class – JaQuan Lyle and Shaqquan Aaron – and are looking to sign three or four other prospects.

U of L really needs to ink a couple of big men in the class.

Here's a look at the players the Cardinals are still after in the '14 class:

Trey Lyles
Position:
Power forward
School (City, State):
Indianapolis Tech
Rating:
No. 7
The latest:
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Lyles has been the top target for the staff since he backed off a commitment to Indiana and nothing has changed. Lyles will make his official visit to U of L this weekend and is also looking at Kentucky, Butler and Florida. It's uncertain if he will make a fall decision or wait until the spring. My best guess is this will be a dogfight between U of L and UK.
Profile:

Jaylen Johnson
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Ypsilanti, Mich.
Rating:
No. 62
The latest:
Johnson started the summer way down the list but after several sensational weeks has worked his way near the top. He made an unofficial visit in June to campus and will make his official visit the weekend of Sept. 20. He is also looking at Michigan State and will visit Iowa State (Sept. 13) and Oregon (Sept. 27). The Cardinals feel good about the situation but have to close it.
Profile:

Myles Turner
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Euless, Texas, Trinity
Rating:
No. 2
The latest:
The 7-foot, 240-pound Turner went from unranked and unknown to every major school in the country after him. Turner moved up to the No. 2 spot in the country and he's narrowed his list to eight schools. The Cardinals made the final eight and are hoping for a visit. Turner is fairly quiet in the recruitment, keeping things close to the vest.
Profile:

Cliff Alexander
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Chicago Curie
Rating:
No. 6
The latest:
Louisville made the cut for Alexander and will get a visit sometime this fall from the top player who is from Chicago. Alexander was a beast for much of the summer, dominating several games with Rick Pitino watching in July. He's really on the same level as Turner – a player the Cardinals' would love to have on the roster. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
Profile:

Cinmeon Bowers
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Chipola, Fla., College
Rating:
N/A
The latest:
The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Bowers is a Chane Behanan-type player with more skill and has a ton of colleges in the mix. Bowers has visited Memphis and will visit Florida State and Louisville before making a decision. The Cardinals get the final visit and that could be a key.
Profile:

Jonah Bolden
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Henderson, Nev., Findlay Prep
Rating:
38
The latest:
The latest Australian sensation has had the Cardinals on the list for sometime and is likely to make a visit to U of L soon. He's looking hard at Michigan because of a connection with his father, but the Cards have a shot.
Profile:

Chinanu Onuaku
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Upper Marlboro, Md., Riverdale Baptist
Rating:
No. 68
The latest:
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Onuaku is the latest big man to pick up an offer from the Cardinals and he's quickly moved up the list. He will visit this weekend and it appears the Cardinals have the lead over Maryland in this one.
Profile:

Elbert Robinson
Position:
Center
School (City, State):
Kennedale, Texas
Rating:
No. 59
The latest:
The 7-foot, 300-pound Robinson has visited SMU and TCU already and had a visit scheduled to U of L. He then called off the visit but is now re-thinking and could still make a trip later this month. Staff still pursuing him.
Profile:

Donte Grantham
Position:
Forward
School (City, State):
Hargrave Military Academy
Rating:
No. 90
The latest:
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Grantham played AAU ball with Chinanu Onuaku, who is visiting this weekend, and is now hearing from the Cardinals. Grantham is one to keep an eye on down the road.
Profile:

GUARDS STILL IN PLAY

Isaiah Whitehead
Position:
Guard
School (City, State):
Brooklyn Abraham Lincoln
Rating:
No. 12
The latest:
The on again, off again deal with U of L and Whitehead is on again as the Cardinals are back in the mix for the top guard. He had a sensational summer and the Cards have a chance if they make a serious run at him.
Profile:

James Blackmon Jr.
Position:
Guard
School (City, State):
Marion, Ind.
Rating:
No. 56
The latest:
A former Indiana commitment, Blackmon recently opened his recruitment up and he made a visit to U of L on Friday. Will be interesting to see if he comes back for an official visit.
