The No. 8 Louisville Cardinals will be looking to keep their record unblemished when they kickoff at noon against Eastern Kentucky University on Saturday.
But the football Cardinals are not the only ones who will be busy this weekend. Plenty of sports action will take place for the University of Louisville over the next few days.
In women's soccer, the Lady Cards will travel to the University of Kentucky to square off with the rival Wildcats (2-1-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. After that, the women will travel to Oxford, Ohio, where they will battle Miami (Ohio) (2-1) at 1 p.m., Sunday afternoon. The Cards are 1-1-1 on the season. Their last match against future conference foe, No. 10 Wake Forest, was canceled due to weather. Midfielder Charlyn Corral was last week's American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, with three goals and one assist. Corral and the Lady Cardinals will look to pick up two road wins this weekend before back-to-back home games next week.
As for the men's soccer team, who are now ranked No. 7 in the nation following a 2-0 start, they will host Butler (1-0-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Cardinal Park. After scoring a goal and chipping in an assist last Friday as the Cards defeated No. 20 Virginia in their season-opener, midfielder Ricardo Velazco was named this week's AAC Offensive Player of the Week. Following their match with Butler, the men's soccer team will be off until Friday, when they will host UC Irvine.
Louisville field hockey, who started their season 1-1 after a win over Richmond and a loss to Virginia last week, will be at home for two games this weekend. The team will face William & Mary at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon in Trager Stadium, before returning on Sunday to take on Ohio University. Sunday's game will also take place at 1 p.m. The Cardinals, who unlike U of L's other programs still compete in the Big East Conference, were pegged to finish third in the conference in the preseason coaches‘ poll behind UConn and Old Dominion.
The No. 17 Louisville women's volleyball team will also be in action this weekend, as they travel to Fargo, N.D., to compete in the Fargo Doublewood Inn Classic. The Cards are set to play North Dakota State Friday night at 8 p.m., before a double-header on Saturday will pit them against Northern Iowa at 11:30 a.m., and against Wisconsin at 5:30 p.m. The team, who finished with a school best 30-4 record last season, are off to a 1-1 start in 2013.
On the golf course, the Louisville men's golf team will travel to Aurora, Ill. for their first tournament action of the 2013-2014 season. The team will compete in the Northern Intercollegiate on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The six players that will accompany coach Mark Crabtree to Aurora are Robin Sciot-Siegrist, Gus Lundquist, Ben Montgomery, Trevor Sluman, Antoine Le Saux, and Max Walz. Sciot-Siegrist led the Cards with eight top-ten finishes last season and a 72.8 stroke average.
