New Hall of Famer already back to work

University of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday and was back to work on Monday. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the new Hall of Famer.

Less than 24 hours after being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday afternoon, University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino was back on the court at work.

Pitino put his current U of L team through individual instruction on Monday and Tuesday morning before heading out recruiting.

"Back at work," Pitino said about his trip to Springfield, Mass., ending.

Pitino and his staff will be out most of the week visiting targets in the Class of 2014 and '15 all over the country.

The Cardinals have commitments in the '14 class from JaQuan Lyle, Shaqquan Aaron and Jaylen Johnson and are expected to try to land at least two and maybe three more prospects in that class.

Among the players U of L expects to visit in the '15 class are Tyler Dorsey, Elijah Thomas, Daniel Giddens and Jaylen Brown – all top 20 prospects.

*The Cardinals are getting all kinds of preseason love in the early magazines that have hit the newsstands.

U of L was ranked No. 3 as a team and Russ Smith a second-team All-American, while Montrezl Harrell was a third-team All-American in the Sporting News preseason magazine.

In Lindy's magazine, the Cardinals were a surprising No. 7 as a team with Russ Smith ranked as the second-best shooting guard in the country.

*U of L is now selling pieces of the floor the Cardinals won the national championship on at www.GoCards.com.

Three different sizes of the floor can be purchased with the price starting at $99.99. There are 1,000 pieces at $499.99 that are signed by Pitino.

Proceeds from the sale of the court will go to help research being conducted by Kenneth Lucas, M.D., chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Kosair Children's Hospital and division chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation for the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics.

*U of L target Cinmeon Bowers of Chipola Junior College has committed to Florida State. He was expected to visit U of L later this month.
