Hoosier All-State performer commits to Cards

The University of Louisville baseball program recently picked up a verbal commitment from Columbus (Ind) North shortstop Devin Mann. Ranked among the top prospects in the Hoosier State, Mann joins an impressive 2015 recruiting class for the Cardinals.

The University of Louisville baseball program has become one of the nation's elite under the direction of head coach Dan McDonnell and recruiting continues to ensure that the future of the Cardinals remains focused on reaching the College World Series.

McDonnell recently picked up a commitment for the Class of 2015 from Columbus (Ind.) North shortstop Devin Mann.

"First off, I love all the coaches there," Mann told Cardinal Authority. "Coach Mac, Coach Lemonis, Coach Cheeseborough, they are all awesome. They really make you feel at home there."

Reaching the 2013 College World Series and the always improving facilities also played a factor in Mann choosing the Cardinals.

"The facilities are great," he continued. "They went to Omaha last year and they have really good program going on. Academics are great, the dorms are awesome, it's all around pretty good."

Mann, who made his first visit to U of L a month ago, committed to the Cardinals over heavy interest from Kentucky and Western Kentucky. While many others were beginning to express an interest, Mann chose to the end the recruiting process early.

"At first I wanted to take my time with it, but as it was going on it was pretty stressful and hard on me," said Mann. "I knew since I went to Louisville that was where I wanted to go, so I thought it would be good to decide now and get it out of the way."

As a sophomore last season, Mann established new school records hitting .532 and 30 stolen bases. He also had 7 home runs and drove in 32 runs, which is the second highest total in Columbus North history.

"Two to four times a week I'm hitting with my dad and trying to become the best hitter that I can be," he said.

Mann made the short drive south over the weekend to take in the Cardinals scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.

"I got a chance to meet about three-fourths of the team and they are all pretty cool."

Mann anticipates making another visit soon to take in a Louisville football game.
