Elite West Coast center 'open' to U of L

University of Louisville assistant basketball coach Wyking Jones has ties to the West Coast and the Cardinals are showing interest in several top 2015 targets in California. Cardinal Authority has an update on the latest offer – Chance Comanche.

University of Louisville assistant basketball coach Wyking Jones has been recruiting Los Angeles junior center Chance Comanche for almost a year.

Jones was back on the West Coast this week and made a visit to see Comanche, who now has 10 offers including Louisville that he's claiming.

The 6-foot-11, 190-pound is the No. 30 prospect nationally in the Class of 2015 by Scout.com, checking in as the No. 9 post player.

"We're definitely open," Comanche's mother, Melissa McGee said of the recruiting process. "He's not even close to deciding.

"But we do like Louisville. I know they are the defending national champions and Rick Pitino it a great coach. There are a lot of pluses. We still want to learn more, but they're a school we want to look at."

Among the other offers in the fold for Comanche are Colorado, Arizona, Gonzaga, Florida State, USC, Arizona State, Connecticut and Washington.

McGee said her son isn't sure if he wants to stay on the West Coast or get away from home to go to college. But he has her blessing to do what he wants.

"He's going to go where he wants to go, where he's most needed and he fits the best," McGee said. "It doesn't matter if that's on the East Coast or the West Coast.

"He's wide open and excited to look around."

McGee said her son took an unofficial visit to Arizona this week, will visit UCLA next week and could make a trip to U of L in the near future.

"The hope is to get out and see some other schools on unofficial visits," McGee said. "I would like for him to visit schools and see what is what."
