Commitment corner: Devin Pike

The University of Louisville has 25 verbal commitments in the Class of 2014. Cardinal Authority will be checking in with those prospects throughout the season. Here's a look at Cincinnati Elder tight end Devin Pike.

Cincinnati Elder High School senior Devin Pike comes from a football family.

Pike's father Steve who played linebacker for Kent State and his older brother, Tony, played quarterback for Cincinnati and had a brief career as an NFL quarterback.

The torch has been passed down to Devin, who is carrying on the family tradition.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Pike is a three-star tight end who is currently one of the 25 prospects committed to the University of Louisville in the Class of 2014.

The younger Pike, who said he is "firmly" committed to the Cardinals, picked U of L over Minnesota, Boston College, Illinois, Virginia and others on July 20.

"After seeing Louisville, I loved everything about it and liked it immediately as soon as I went there," Pike said.

Pike recently made the short trip to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and watched the Cardinals deck Ohio University in the season-opener. He plans on making a return trip soon.

"I was really impressed by the coaches and by the atmosphere because it made me feel like I was part of the family, even though I have yet to put on a U of L jersey," Pike said.

The coaching staff at U of L has always stood out to Pike, who said he has already built a solid relationship with the staff and is looking forward to spending more time with them.

"I love the coaching staff and I talk to offensive coordinator Shawn Watson at least once a week, I just want to keep in touch with them," he said.

Now that Pike has made his commitment, he said his focus has been on his senior season and trying to make it a successful one for the Panthers. Elder is 4-1 on the season and has 12 catches for 135 yards. Elder plays rival Cincinnati St. Xavier this weekend.

"I definitely want to make a run in the playoffs and hopefully win state, as that would be a dream for me to go out on a positive note," Pike said.

Pike will sign with the Cardinals in February.
