U of L women roll Quinnipiac, 100-82

The University of Louisville women's basketball team rolled into the semifinals of the Women's Preseason WNIT with a 100-82 victory over Quinnipiac on Monday night before 6,783 fans at the KFC Yum Center. U of L had all 13 players in the scoring column and will host LSU on Thursday.

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz wasn't too happy with his team's defense or free-throw shooting.

But it didn't matter in this game.

The Cardinals zipped to a 25-10 lead and downed Quinnipiac 100-82 in the quarterfinals of the Women's Preseason WNIT on Monday night at the KFC Yum Center.

Junior Sara Hammond had 20 points and 11 rebounds - her second double-double in two games this season - while Antonita Slaughter chipped in 19 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Jude Schimmel finished with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Asia Taylor has 12 points. All-American Shoni Schimmel was just 1 of 13 from the field and had two points but also dished out 11 assists.

"We can score with anybody," Walz said. "But we have to start defending."

U of L hit 34 of 71 from the field, while the Bobcats were 29 of 65, including 7 of 26 three-pointers. The Cardinals hit 11 of 13 free throws in the first half but just 24 of 39 for the game after going 18 of 34 on Saturday.

U of L (2-0), ranked No. 5 in the polls, will play host to No. 19 LSU on Thursday in the semifinals.

The game will be a $2 soft drink and beer (Bud and Bud Light) night. Walz said he will buy the first 2,500 beers for the fans.

"Bring a designated driver," he said. "We're just trying to make it fun."
