Hairston excited to make it official

After switching his commitment from Kentucky to Louisville in July, Lexington Tates Creek shortstop Devin Hairston will make it official on Wednesday when he signs with the Cardinals.

Among the highlights of Louisville baseball's 2014 recruiting class is the presence of the majority of the top in-state prospects.

Lexington Tates Creek Devin Hairston is rated as the state's sixth best prospect and a Top 100 shortstop by After a brief pledge to Kentucky, he committed to Louisville on the first day of the contact period in July.

On Wednesday morning Hairston will sign his Letter of Intent to play for the University of Louisville.

"It's really exciting," said Hairston, who will sign at home with his family. "It'll hit me in the morning that I'm going to officially be a Cardinal."

In addition to the post-season success, Hairston was also attracted to the U of L program for the chance to be part of history.

"It's really exciting knowing that we are going to be the first recruiting class which is going into to be in the ACC. I'm really happy and excited to be apart of that."

As the All-State performer prepares for his final prep season, Hairston has been working out with fellow 2014 U of L commit and future roomate in pitcher/outfielder Lincoln Henzman of Lexington Christian.

"My team made to the first round of state last year and that's the furthest we've made in the past 23 years," Hairston said. "We have a pretty good squad coming back, so it looks really good that we can make another run at it."
