Another surprise recruit for Louisville

The University of Louisville men's basketball team has landed a second surprise commitment in a week. The Cardinals have signed a foreign big man and now have five members of the Class of 2014. Cardinal Authority has the latest.

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino wanted to add a couple of power forwards to his program in the Class of 2014.

Pitino and his staff signed Ypsilanti, Mich., power forward Jaylen Johnson among the four players who joined the program last week on signing day.

On Tuesday morning, the Cardinals have added another.

Cardinal Authority has confirmed through sources that Norwegian big man Matz Stockman, who attends the Canarias Basketball Academy in the Canary Islands. He's signed and is expected to be announced at some point later today.

The 7-foot-2 Stockman is 18 years old and originally from Oslo, which is located in Eastern Norway. He's listed as the No. 50 player on the International '95 listing from

"First and foremost, we think this is a tremendous opportunity for Matz," Canaries Basketball Academy director Rob Orellana said. "Getting the opportunity to train under Hall of Fame Coach, Rick Pitino is a chance of a lifetime. In Matz, Louisville is getting a big man with unlimitted potential. He's every inch 7'02, has a 7'06 wing span and is extremly agile. He has the potential to be elite, it's just a matter of time."

Stockman played for Norway in the U18 European Championships this past summer, averaging 7.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots a game in 18.8 minutes a game during nine games.
