U of L women roll; Walz sets school mark

Jeff Walz is now the all-time winningest coach in University of Louisville women's basketball history after the Cardinals decked Ohio University 90-33 on Thursday night.

It was win No. 153 for University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz. And it came fairly easy.

The Cardinals decked Ohio University 90-33 - hitting 70.8 percent in the second half from the field - and made Walz the winningest coach in school history.

U of L hit 34 of 56 from the field, saw all 12 players score and outrebounded the Bobcats 54-25. The Cardinals outscored the Ohio bench 49-7.

Walz improved to 153-65 as the Cardinals' coach and was presented with a game ball marking his milestone.

"I've been fortunate to have a lot of good players," Walz said. "It's not about me."

Shawnta' Dyer - who missed much of last season with a knee injury - led the Cardinals with 15 points. Shoni Schimmel added 13 points and four rebounds, while Bria Smith had 12 points and Megan Deines added 11 points and six boards.

The No. 3 Cardinals (5-0) will host Florida State on Sunday at 2 p.m. The NCAA runner-up banner will be shown and the team will be honored before the game.
