U of L football commits roll in playoffs

Six of the seven University of Louisville football commitments still playing high school football advanced in their respect state's playoffs on Friday night. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the commitments

Four future University of Louisville football players from the state of Florida will play for state championships next weekend.

Wide receiver Isaiah Ford and offensive lineman Kavaris Harkless helped lead Jacksonville, Fla., Trinity Christian to a 20-11 win over Tampa Catholic in the Class 3-A Florida State semifinals on Friday. U of L target T.J. Harrell had a touchdown and led Tampa Catholic in tackles in the game.

Trinity Christian will play Clearwater Central Catholic next Saturday at 1 p.m. on the 3-A final at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

The Class 2-A state championship game in Florida will pit a pair of U of L commitments against each other.

Safety Michael Johnson helped Champagnat Catholic beat Indian Rocks 28-14 for a 13th straight victory.

Defensive lineman Chris Nelson helped lead Lakeland, Fla., Victory Christian to a 46-41 win over North Florida. Victory Christian and Champagnat Catholic play on Friday in the 2-A state final at 1 o'clock in Orlando.

Linebacker Isaac Stewart helped lead Butler, N.C., to a 48-7 win over West Forsyth and into the North Carolina Class 4-AA semifinals.

McEachern, Ga., and U of L commitment Henry Famurewa - who has 15 sacks this season - beat Collins Hill 35-32 in the 6-A quarterfinals in Georgia. McEachern plays Mallard Creek in the semifinals next weekend.

The only U of L commitment who was still playing this weekend and lost was Rashawn Shaw, whose Fort Pierce, Fla., Central team lost to Tampa Plant in the 8-A quarterfinals in Florida.
